2017 Saskatchewan Pork Industry
Award of Distinction for Production Excellence
Honouring David Resch, General Manager of Production, Chesterfield Stock Farm
Sask Pork’s Awards of Distinction honour individuals or organizations who through their leadership, commitment and innovation contribute to the success and sustainability of the Saskatchewan pork industry. Awards are presented annually in November at the Saskatchewan Pork Industry Symposium in Saskatoon.
The 2017 Award of Distinction for Production Excellence was awarded to David Resch, General Manager of Chesterfield Stock Farm near Leader, Saskatchewan. The presentation was made by Richard Wright, director with Chesterfield Stock Farm.
David has held the position of General Manager since 1999 and under his management the farm has achieved an extraordinary level of production performance. He is responsible for commercial animal production and production of high-quality breeding stock. David is a valued member of the Chesterfield operation and is highly regarded by his colleagues, staff and members of the pork industry in Saskatchewan and beyond.
Commendations for David were received from numerous industry members who shared their experiences of working with David.
Dr. Neil Shantz of Warman Veterinary Services offered his congratulations. “David is a worthy recipient of the Production Excellence Award.” “He chose agriculture as a profession and swine production as a specialized career. He has a wealth of skills and personal characteristics that have resulted in many successes as the manager of Chesterfield Stock Farm.” “He is an extremely loyal and dedicated employee and manager.”
Dr. Shantz added “.. David clearly understands the relationship between the production aspects of the business and economics that drive the farm’s financial success. This was a primary key characteristic that led to the success of Chesterfield Stock Farm.”
Dr. Shantz appreciates immensely the opportunity to work with David as a part of the production team, noting that “frequently the image of a consulting veterinarian is one who is passing on learned knowledge to the client, though David was a prime example of a client from whom I learned many things I could pass on to other farms!”
Tom Riek of Pig Improvement Company (PIC) had the following to say about David. “As a supplier of PIC gilts to his customers, David has always embraced excellent quality standards in the production and selection of breeding gilts, and now boars as well. His quiet and thoughtful approach has made him a pleasure to work with. Reliability and trust are words that come to mind when thinking about David.”
Dr. Mark Jacobson of Warman Veterinary Services also shared his experiences working with David who he has known since Chesterfield Stock Farm began operations as part of the Quadra Group in 1998. “David is a true livestock person and over the years has recognized that Chesterfield Stock Farms requires ongoing maintenance and even lives on a house built on the site.”
Malachy Young with Gowans Feed Consulting offered his congratulations on behalf of the Gowans Team who have worked with David for 13 years. “It has been a great pleasure for me to work with you and be part of the team serving your farm’s needs.” “From starting to work with you in August 2004, we have seen a lot of changes in the industry and at your farm. You steered Chesterfield Stock Farm through the tough financial times we’ve experienced on the Prairies, with low pig prices and high feed costs, and have come through strong.”
On behalf of producers and industry, Sask Pork congratulates David for his achievements in outstanding Production Excellence!
