The first ever Alberta Livestock Expo attracted over 500 attendees. With all booths sold out and solid attendance at the one day event back in October organizers of the show are already looking ahead to 2018.
Chris Tokaruk, one of the guys who came up with the idea to have a multi species show in Lethbridge, was pleased with turn out and positive comments from both those attending and those exhibiting. Chris from the launch of the show opened it up to all companies, even welcoming his competitors.
However 2018 promisees to be bigger and better, adding a second day, a BBQ and maybe even a carcass competition.
Tokaruk added, “there is room to expand the show, this facility has a abundance of room, with lots of onsite parking.”
One of the highlights of the show was the Emergency Response Trailer onsite at the Alberta Pork booth.
Kudos to Alberta Pork for arranging to have one of the Livestock Emergency Trailers on site. So so so many still are not aware of these trailers. Together we are all trying to get the word out so if in case of an emergency producers, truckers or anybody knows whom to call. Andrew Watson from the Nobleford Fire Department was on site to answer questions on and about the trailer. With so much conversation on these trailers over the past few months and yet still so many not even realizing that there are 15 of them scattered through out the province.
AFAC (Alberta Farm Animal Care) was also on site to reenforce the trailers and other services they offer.
At the Prairie Hog Country booth I talked to producers from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Montana. Thanks again to all the producers who stopped by to chat and remind me how much they look forward to every issue.
Local exhibitors were busy at their retail locations too. Producers come in for the show and grab a few thing at the shop since in town, explained Klaus Santrau of South Country Livestock Looking forward to the 2nd annual Alberta Livestock Expo next year. •
